DA group of parents of children
suffering from diabetes, who knew insulin and tablets
were no cure for this life-threatening condition,
founded in the USA in 1970 the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation (JDRF). It is the pioneer aiming
at finding a cure for diabetes, especially its Type 1
variant, which often strikes children suddenly and
requires multiple daily injection of insulin. A decade
later, on 14th November 1981, was founded Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation India, formerly Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation India.
A man's vision and perspiration made this possible. He
was a juvenile diabetic himself, Late Tapabrata Roy,
whose unflinching, meaningful strivings for 50 yrs as
a diabetic since the age of 17 brought him the famed
Joslin Diabetes Award from Boston in USA, the first
Indian to receive this honour.
The JDRF India is affiliated to the JDRF
International, 120 Wall Street, New York, USA. We are
a voluntary body, registered as an NGO under the WB
Registered Society Act 1961(India), pursuing a mission
to support the juvenile diabetics in India. They need
to be made aware, to be provided with insulin, and be
helped in their exercise of human rights.
